This beautiful, small shrub to about 2 m tall is native to Tasmania, where it grows in wet forests, generally in alpine and subalpine zones, although it can occasionally be found at lower elevations. It has red stems, shiny dark green leaves and white flowers followed by clusters of edible, bright white berries, that can be consumed raw or used in tarts. A delightful ornamental for temperate climates, in USDA Zones 8 and 9. Would do well in most UK garden although is not often seen.
